Pianist Daniil Trifonov

 Classical music is a feast for the mind and senses.

If you are a fan of 19^th-century European fare, a joint recital with Daniil Trifonov and Sergei Babayan at New York’s Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, October 16 at 8 p.m. is not to be missed.

Part of the Keyboard Virtuosos Series, Trifonov and Babayan will perform works by Ravel, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev. Of their 2018 Carnegie Hall performance, The New York Timesstated, “The firepower they achieved together is rare among piano duos.”

Trifonov is a Russian pianist and composer and has performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, and many more. Born in the Soviet Union, Trifonov began studying piano at the age of 5. A student of the Gnessin School of Music in Moscow, he won First Prize and Grand Prix at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, thereby launching his professional career. Now based in New York City, Trifonov was recently announced as New York Philharmonic’s artist-in-residence for the 2019-20 season.

Babayan is an Armenian-American pianist who studied at the Moscow Conservatory. In 1996, he founded the Sergei Babayan International Piano Academy at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he also serves as an artist-in-residence. The winner of numerous international piano competitions, Babayan is recognized for his interpretations of Rachmaninoff.

The October 16 recital will be held at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.
