WantedDesign is Coming Back to NYC

WantedDesign to highlight some of the best international designers and manufacturers during NYCxDESIGN 2016

WantedDesign is coming back for its 6th Edition during NYCxDESIGN, NYC’s annual celebration of the design in its five boroughs. Founded in 2011 by Odile Hainut and Claire Pijoulat, WantedDesign is “a platform dedicated to promoting design and fostering the international creative community with its marquee events during NYCXDESIGN” (May 3-17). WantedDesign will bring a myriad of design-related happenings to Manhattan from May 13-16 and Brooklyn from May 7-17. Industry City, a six million square-foot 21st century innovation and manufacturing district on the waterfront in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, is the group’s current year-round home.

On Monday, May 16 at 1 pm, the “Launch Pad Best of 2016” announcement will be made at WantedDesign Manhattan at the Terminal Stores, located at 11 Avenue between 27^th and 28^th streets. In its third edition, the Launch program supports independent designers and small companies as they seek manufacturers for their new products. During WantedDesign, The Launch Pad Prize is awarded to one of the designers, who will then receive a free exhibition spot at WantedDesign 2017. 2015’s winner, Kjartan Oskarsson, will be presenting his two lamp concepts HALO and Forester at this year’s event. Winners are selected by a group of design professionals led by Design Milk Founder and Executive Editor Jaime Derringer.

The 2016 Launch Pad contestants are comprised of 33 international design studios and independent designers, including Richard Clarkson who is featured in the May “Home and Design” issue of Urban Agenda Magazine. Innovative textile designer Elodie Blanchard, another feature in our upcoming issue, can also be found at this year’s WantedDesign events.
