D&R Greenway Begins Two Yearlong Fellowships with 2021 Princeton University Graduates

D&R Greenway welcomes two recent graduates of Princeton University into one-year Fellowships in partnership with Princeton’s AlumniCorps Project 55 program. Two recent graduates of Princeton University were welcomed into one-year Fellowhips by D&R Greenway, beginning this summer. These Fellowships are provided in partnership with Princeton’s AlumniCorps Project 55 program. This program offers opportunities for exceptional recent graduates to connect with and work with nonprofits. The AlumniCorps Project 55’s motto is “Launch a life of civic leadership.” more

Wonder Bar Yappy Hour in Asbury Park

Open seven days a week from noon to 8 p.m., Asbury Park’s famous Wonder Bar at 1213 Ocean Avenue hosts “Yappy Hour” where owners can mix and mingle while their dogs run free. Yappy Hour was founded 12 years ago by Debbie DeLisa, a former Eastern Airlines flight attendant and current manager of the Wonder Bar.

DeLisa wanted to recreate a “Cheers” feeling, where “everybody knows your name and everybody knows your dog’s name,” says DeLisa. Asbury Park has already earned the moniker of one of the most pet-friendly towns on the Jersey Shore, and this summer event seems to confirm it. more

Raritan Valley Road Runners Host 5K Summer Series

Raritan Valley Road Runners will host its 5K Summer Series on July 27, August 10, and August 24.

Registration for this 37th edition of the race series opens at 5:30 p.m. on the evening of each race day. 2.5K run/walk options are also available. All race registration will be held near the boat launch in Donaldson Park in Highland Park.

Races are cross country style, meaning that the terrain will include mostly grass and dirt following the path of the scenic Raritan River. more

Sesame Place Hosts 41st Birthday Bash

The day’s events include a birthday character meet and greet and photo opportunities with some of Sesame Street’s most popular personalities. July 4th Scavenger Hunt

Every year, in honor of Independence Day, Morven hosts a free event to celebrate its American heritage at the home-turned-museum of Richard Stockton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

This year’s celebration will be different, but hopefully just as meaningful. Participants will not gather as they have in the past. While Morven’s historic gardens remain open for socially distanced events and the museum is typically open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the museum will be closed on Sunday, July 4. more

Local AME Church and Museum Listed on National Register of Historic Places

Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, the home of the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM), at 189 Hollow Road in Skillman, Montgomery Township, Somerset County, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 7, 2021.

The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archeological resources. more

Six George School Students Commit to College Athletics

Six seniors from the George School Class of 2021 have committed to college athletic programs. The student athletes — in four different sports — celebrated their commitment to pursue their passion at the college level next year. In a ceremony held in the Fitness and Athletics Center, each senior was recognized by their families, coaches, teammates, and friends on Friday, May 21, 2021.

Lambertville Mayor Finalizes Historic Purchase of Closson Property

The City of Lambertville, led by Mayor Julia Fahl, has closed on the historic Closson property, located at 260 North Main Street. This effort began in October when the Closson family announced their retirement from the Homestead Farm Market, after more than 30 years of serving the community. With their retirement, they announced the sale of the over 8.5-acre property at the northern gateway of the Lambertville community. more

More Than 2,900 Children to Benefit from Princeton Area Community Foundation COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund Grants for Summer Programs

The Princeton Area Community Foundation has awarded $199,000 in COVID-19 Relief & Recovery Fund grants to nonprofits holding summer programs that will include instruction to help students overcome learning loss caused by the pandemic.

“Through these grants, we are helping 25 nonprofits engage 2,900 children in educational and social-emotional learning programs,” said Jeffrey M. Vega, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “We know COVID-19 caused significant disruptions to education, especially for students living in under-resourced communities, and we hope these grants will help young people rebound from some of that learning loss and re-engage children in the many community-based programs that were forced to shut down last year. We also invite other donors to join us in working to help nonprofits recover from the pandemic.” more

Roebling Museum Selected by Smithsonian to Create Exhibit on American Workers

The Smithsonian Institution announced that it has chosen Roebling Museum to develop an exhibit about work in a steel-making company town founded in 1905. Roebling Museum, which documents the history of a company town built by suspension bridge engineers John A. Roebling’s Sons Co., is one of five museums nationwide to participate in Smithsonian’s Museums on Main Street program. more

Princeton Farmers’ Market Kicks Off Summer Season

The Princeton Farmers’ Market returns to Franklin Avenue lot this Thursday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market will reoccur every Thursday through November 18. Shoppers can expect to find farm fresh produce, local meats, baked goods, and more.
