David Gray at Count Basie Center June 5

By Taylor Smith

David Gray’s Gold in a Brass Age tour will come to Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank on Wednesday, June 5 at 8 p.m.

Gray is a British singer-songwriter known for his take on contemporary folk-rock. Starting with the release of his album White Ladder, Gray began to make use of his voice and acoustic instrumentation in unusual ways that earned him distinction within the British rock scene. White Ladder became the fifth best-selling album of the 2000s in the U.K. Gray has been nominated for four Brit Awards (twice for Best British Male).

On his latest album, Gold in a Brass Age, Gray’s folksy voice is complemented by digital and naturalistic sounds. On the release of his Best of David Gray album, Gray told NPR’s World Cafe about how his initial career as a painter still influences and informs his composition and songwriting.

While Gold in a Brass Age is a solo tour, Gray has previously toured with Dave Matthews Band and Radiohead.

Ticket prices for the June 5 concert range from $59.50-99.50. To purchase, visit https://thebasie.org/events/david-gray/.

Count Basie Center for the Arts is located at 99 Monmouth Street in Red Bank.
