The BirthPlace at Holy Name Medical Center: This Place is Different

The BirthPlace at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck is designed to help expectant families feel safe, informed, and comforted about their birth experience. Moms are welcome to bring their doulas, and certified nurse-midwives are on staff. Holy Name’s board-certified obstetricians/gynecologists, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, perinatologists, and neonatologists are available on-site 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Birthing partners are also welcome to spend the night and flexible visiting hours include family and friends.
Private mother/baby suites include room service and cultural and religious needs are met wherever possible, including dietary requests and foreign language interpretation. Free educational and support programs in English and Spanish are available from pre-pregnancy through postpartum.
Holy Name Medical Center offers free parent education classes that cover everything from pregnancy to delivery, breastfeeding, and postpartum support care. All classes are led by registered nurses and moms are invited to bring their loved ones along. Parents can register for any of these classes by calling the Parent Education Department at (201) 833-3153.
Tours of Holy Name’s BirthPlace are available for parents, family members, and children. The tour includes visiting a birthing room, maternity room, and nursery. Additional services offered at the BirthPlace are hydrotherapy (soaking in a relaxing tub of water during labor), lactation consultation, one-on-one information sessions on diabetes during pregnancy, and infant and child CPR.
Lastly, whenever a baby is born at Holy Name Medical Center, the lullaby “Hush Little Baby” chimes over the public address system, reminding everyone of the miracle of life.
